--- DISCONTINUED (Verified 3/2013) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- BrailleSurf 4 is a Web browser designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. It provides a simplified text reading of the information available on the Internet, which can be presented on a braille display or spoken by a speech synthesizer (not included). The text can also be presented on the screen in enlarged format for individuals with low vision (large print or screen magnification program not included). This program can also be used for a fast review of the accessibility level of a website for visually impaired people. The program's technical principle is to analyze the source code of HTML (hypertext markup language) pages, in order to keep only the essential information and to design an optimal layout. The graphical objects are filtered and the page is rebuilt in a textual way. This program is available in English, French, and Spanish. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95/98/NT/2000. Supported braille displays include ABT3 from Alva, Vario from Baum, ClioBraille and AzerBraille from EuroBraille, Visiobraille 2040 and Mini-Visiobraille HanDialog, BrailleWindow from HandyTech, and AlizT and ZTphyr from TechniBraille. Supported speech synthesisers include Proverbe Speech Engine from Elan Informatique, and SAPI 4 compatible synthesisers. Drivers to support these peripheral devices may be downloaded from the manufacturer's Web site.
