The Plustek Book Reader is a voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The system scans books without shadows around the spine. The included optical character recognition (OCR) software turns the scan result into text, which is automatically read aloud using TTS (text-to-speech) software. Scanned text is automatically saved as a text file, and can also be saved in MP3 or WAV format. There is a choice of male and female voices with British or American accents. Text is displayed onscreen while being read, with a choice of fonts and background/foreground color schemes. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Microsoft Windows XP or 2000 operating system; Pentium II or faster processor; CD-ROM drive; one available USB port; 128 megabytes (MB) RAM (256 MB recommended); 500 MB free hard disk drive space; TTS (text to speech)software or screen reader; headset or speaker. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 4 x 11 x 18 inches. WEIGHT: 7.5 pounds.
