Community Helpers 1 and Community Helpers 2 Language Kits, models LK-CH1 and LK-CH2, are independent living and language tutorial programs designed for use by children with cognitive or communication disabilities. These kits help students identify people in the community who are helpers, where they work, and what they do. Each kit includes a book written with limited vocabulary and repetitive lines using Mayer-Johnson Picture Communication Symbols (see entry); an interactive computer book that combines text, pictures, speech and sound; and a songboard, word cards, and vocabulary games. Occupations covered include police officer, librarian, nurse, cashier, firefighter, doctor, dentist, and teacher (model LK-CH1); and life guard, construction worker, secretary, custodian, hairdresser, mail carrier, bus driver, and waiter/waitress (model LK-CH2).
