--- DISCONTINUED. (verified 11/95) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR RECORDS. --- Emergency evacuation system, for evacuating persons from multi story buildings. Aerial rescue system designed of three tubes. Innermost slide tube constructed of a high strength fabric. Contains no circumvential seams. Middle tube made of ripstop nylon. Restricting bands in this tub control speed of the person's descent. The outer tube (heatshield tube) is made of NOMEX, an aluminized heat resistant material and sewn with kevlar thread. The innermost and middle tubes are attached to a yoke. Durable fabric. The yoke is covered with aluminized NOMEX extending from the outer heat shielding tube. The tubes are attached to a metal bracket by bolts and nuts. To use the system, fireman places evacuee in tube feet first, lowers the body while the evacuee lifts knees and legs until the body weight is supported by knees and legs. Evacuee pushes feet downward until body starts to descend. Evacuee can control own speed by pushing out on side of slide with arms, hands and legs. For disabled person the descent speed can be controlled on ground by someone twisting and untwisting tube. Can be used at different heights in multi story buildings by opening or closing 5 foot long zippers which are integrated into the tubes in a vertical fashion.

Notes: For evacuees with no control of legs, it is recommended that legs be tied or taped together or ankles and knees.
