RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. -- The MDE-A Sprint is a personal electric vehicle and adapted golf cart designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injuries or mobility disabilities. This open, four-wheeled, golf-cart-style vehicle is available in a two- or four-seat model and is operated using the Multimode Controller (MMC) located on the console between the front seats. The controller can be operated from either front seat, depending on whether the driver is right- or left-handed. The controller can be operated with one hand, and replaces standard brake and accelerator pedals, steering wheels, tillers, and the power reversing switch and braking found on conventional golf carts. To operate the vehicle, the driver grips the controller paddle. Moving the paddle forward or backward unlocks the parking brake and enables the vehicle to accelerate in forward or reverse, and moving the paddle left or right steers the vehicle. Other standard equipment includes head and tail lights, a horn, side mirrors, armrests, self-sealing tubless tires, and grab bars. An adapted model designed specifically for those with physical disabilities also includes a citizens band (CB) radio and hand-held transmitter, hazard lamp, alarm horn, and a roof. POWER: Uses a rechargeable battery pack, and a built-in battery charger with a 20-foot retractable cord is standard. The standard model includes a 200 AH battery pack and the model for those with physical disabilities includes a 400 AH battery pack. The 400 AH battery pack is available as an option. OPTIONS: Standard roof (included with the adapted model), roof with power pack, turf saver tires (for using vehicle as a golf cart), and CB radio (included with the adapted model). DIMENSIONS: The vehicle is 41 inches wide and can fit through a standard 48-inch wide patio door. CAPACITY: 400 pounds. WEIGHT: 450 pounds.
