Picture of KNFBREADER MOBILE The knfbReader Mobile is a cell phone, optical character recognition device, and voice output reading machine designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The user takes a photo of the text to be read with the built-in cell phone camera, and the text is read aloud. An automatic viewfinder tells the user whether the entire document is in the photo. While the text is being read, the device can display the text on the phone’s built-in screen and highlight each word as it is spoken. The device can also recognize U.S. currency. Scanned text can be stored on a flash memory card, or transfered to and from a computer or a braille notetaker. Reading speed is adjustable. The cell phone is a Nokia N82 using a Symbian S60 operating system, with a built-in 5-megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash. The phone has 40 megabytes (MB) free RAM, 50 MB free Flash storage, and a Flash card slot. Supported languages are US English or UK English. The device comes with polarizers for the camera and flash, and printed and on-device help files (braille available by request). OPTIONS: Voice output software for cell phone functions (Talks or MobileSpeak); GPS software; and phone case.

Notes: The manufacturer states that cell phone use requires a phone carrier that supports unlocked GSM phones (in the U.S., AT&T and T-Mobile).

Price: Contact manufacturer.
