--- DO IT YOURSELF ENTRY ---- PURPOSE: To enable individuals who use scooters or wheelchairs to operate a commercial powered sweeper. This accommodation required design and development of a custom hitch system with a pin release linkage to which the battery-powered sweeper could be attached, enabling the scooter user to perform the job of vacuuming the halls at his place of employment It was also necessary to upgrade the scooter/wheelchair batteries to accommodate the increased load. This project used standard shop equipment and readily available materials. Full design plans are available from the Assistive Technology and Assessment Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI. SKILLS REQUIRED: Metal work and assembly.
