On the Impact of Data Collection on the Quality of Signal Strength Signatures in Wi-Fi Indoor Localization

Paper focuses on the impact of data collection on the quality of signal strength in Wi-Fi signals, which can be used for navigation in indoor and outdoor environments for people with visual disabilities. A multi-sensor device called the wayfinder was evaluated, as the device utilizes a wireless card the collects signals from five wireless access routers placed at different locations – in this case, locations at the Utah State University Computer Science Department. Data were collected for a period of 1.5 months, as a participant walked a series of four different routes. During the walk, the participant pressed a key on the system to indicate when they passed over a piece of tape. Quantitative data is presented in table format. This research was conducted at the Computer Science Assistive Technology Laboratory at the Department of Computer Science at Utah State University.
