LOMAK Keyboard Opens Brave New World

By Van der Heijden, Dennis; Axistive,
Publication Date: May 2005

Article focuses on the LOMAK (light-operated mouse and keyboard) Keyboard from New Zealand’s Realize Technology. The keyboard was designed for people with arthritis, stroke, or any other condition that impairs their ability to use a standard keyboard. The application has allowed two boys with congenital spinal muscular atrophy to use a laser headset or hand unit to enter keystrokes, and to use a form of shorthand to compose text. These applications help to alleviate the stress of having to type keys on a standard keyboard, which can be very difficult for people with physical disabilities.
