AssistiveTouch is a touch screen navigation assistance program for people with fine motor or other physical disabilities that prevent a person from using the control gestures for the touch screen on an Apple iPhone or iPad. When activated, AssistiveTouch displays a menu that overlays the screen. The menu has single touch buttons that allow a user to replace commands that require certain physical actions, such as rotating the screen or shaking the device to “undo.” AssistiveTouch can be activated in the “Accessibility” section of the device’s “Settings.” COMPATIBILITY: For use with the Apple iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S and iPad. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Apple iOS 5.0 or later.
CloseView is a screen magnification program designed for use by individuals with low vision. This program magnifies all screen images, including text, graphics, menu bar, and the mouse cursor, from 2 to 16 times normal size. Working as an option on the Control Panel, the program also permits the screen display to be changed from black on white to white on black. The program can be turned on and off, and magnification levels can be changed by using combinations of the Control, Option, and other keys. This program is included as part of the Apple Macintosh system software (System 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x). It is included with all sets of operating system disks at no additional charge; documentation is provided in the manual for the system. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple Macintosh computers.
Easy Access is a set of keyboard utilities built into the Apple Macintosh operating system that allow the user to modify the operation of the keyboard and mouse for individuals who have limited upper extremity mobility. The utilities are provided with the operating system at no additional cost. Sticky Keys is a feature that allows single-finger operation of the keyboard. With Sticky Keys turned on, the "modifier" keys (such as SHIFT) can be pressed before the key they modify, rather than at the same time. Pressing the modifier key once modifies the next keystroke only; pressing it twice locks it on until it is turned off by being pressed again. Multiple modifier key sequences (like SHIFT-OPTION) can be executed using Sticky Keys. MouseKeys is a feature that allows the keys on the numeric keypad to be used in place of the mouse. Since the Apple PowerBook does not have a built-in numeric keypad, this utility set also includes a Mouse Keys for the PowerBook utility, which is used to emulate the numeric keyboard on the standard PowerBook keyboard. SlowKeys is a utility that enables the computer user to have the keyboard delay a keyboard entry unless the desired key is held down for a user-determined amount of time. The set also includes a text-to-speech utility that allows the computer to read alert messages that appear on the screen; messages can be read in either English or Mexican Spanish. Easy Access is included in operating systems 4.1 and above. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple Macintosh and PowerBook computers.

MAC OS X VERSION 10.2 JAGUAR
Mac OS X Jaguar is a computer operating system with built-in keyboard modification, mouse emulator, screen magnification, speech synthesizer, visual beep indicator, voice input, and voice output programs, designed for use by individuals who are blind, deaf or hard of hearing, or who have low vision or upper extremity disabilities. For users with low vision, this operating system provides a Zoom display option that uses the Quartz rendering and compositing engine to magnify the contents of the screen while smoothing graphics and type. The operating system also provides a white on black display option. For individuals with upper extremity disabilities or low vision, speech recognition can be used to launch applications as well as to execute application commands instead of typing or mousing. The system will also speak alerts, selected text, and text underneath the mouse using its PlainTalk speech synthesizer program. For users who are deaf or hard of hearing, the operating system makes it possible for the screen to flash to indicate beeping alerts. Users who have have difficulty using the mouse can use the numeric keypad to move the cursor around the screen. The operating system also allows users to navigate menus, the Dock, windows, toolbars, palettes, and other controls via the keyboard. For individuals who have difficulty using a keyboard, the operating system allows modifier keys (command, option, control, shift) to be pressed sequentially instead of simultaneously. The operating system displays key sequences on screen with the Quartz compositor, and can also beep when a modifier key is pressed. OPTIONS: Single-switch and on-screen keyboard software, and command sets to extend command capabilities when using voice recognition software (see separate entries). COMPATIBILITY: For use on Power Mac G3, G4, G4 Cube; iMac; PowerBook G3, G4; iBook; or eMac computers. This operating system does not support the original PowerBook G3 or processor upgrade cards. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 128 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM); built-in display or display connected to an Apple-supplied video card; and at least 3.0 gigabytes (GB) of available hard drive space. This operating system works with most Canon, HP, and Epson USB inkjet printers; USB digital still cameras that support mass storage, PTP, and Digita; and cameras from Canon, Kodak, and Nikon. However, some devices may need additional driver support from the manufacturer.
Siri is a voice input program for people with visual, cognitive or fine motor disabilities or physical disabilities that prevent use of the touch screen or buttons on an Apple iPhone 4S. Siri permits the user to speak commands or questions into the iPhone’s built-in microphone, and the software will perform the task or provide the information requested. Siri can be used to send text message, enter events in the calendar, create reminders, place telephone calls, write and send email, check weather conditions and initiate web and Wikipedia searches. Siri’s responses can be read aloud using the VoiceOver screen reader (see separate entry) included in Apple’s iOS software, and it works with headphones and Bluetooth headsets. Siri supports English, Spanish and German. COMPATIBILITY: For use with the Apple iPhone 4S. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Apple iOS 5.0 or later
VoiceOver is a screen reader program for people who are blind or have low vision. VoiceOver is integrated into the Apple OS X operating system for Macintosh computers and the iOS operating system for iPhone and iPad tablet computers. On Macintosh computers, VoiceOver and OS X include built-in support for over 40 USB and Bluetooth braille displays, and it can support multiple braille languages. VoiceOver has standard gestures that can be used on a touchpad to navigate, switch windows or applications, use menu items and access applications, and it allows the user to assign gestures to be associated with other commands, utilities or workflows. It also supports keyboard-based navigation shortcuts. On the iPhone and iPad, VoiceOver allows the user to interact directly with the touchscreen by speaking the content of any area of the screen that is touched and providing instructions on how to access the application or content on the screen. Similar to its use on the Mac, VoiceOver has standard gestures that control a wide variety of functions, and the user can program custom gestures. VoiceOver for iOS also supports Bluetooth braille displays. VoiceOver includes built-in voices that speak 36 languages. COMPATIBILITY: For use with Apple Macintosh computer; iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S; iPod Nano and Touch; and iPad. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Apple OS X for Macintosh; iOS 4.0 or later for iPhone, iPod and iPad.
