    Window-Eyes Professional is a screen reader program designed to provide access to Windows and Windows-based applications for individuals who are blind or have low vision. Window-Eyes provides easy control and setup, and a wide variety of features for automatic reading of menus, dialog boxes, progress bars, scroll bars, and other Windows activities. A read-to-end feature allows documents to be read from beginning to end without stopping. Features can be configured to personal taste. Window-Eyes provides access to web pages, including those with tables, using Microsoft Internet Explorer. It also supports Adobe Acrobat PDFs. Fifty windows are simultaneosly available for reading, while 26 hyperactive windows may be monitored for changes or specified occurrences such as exact text matches. More than 150 hot keys can be defined for Window-Eyes commands, while hot keys that are unneeded can be left undefined.     The Braille Sense Plus is a braille notetaker, word processor, personal digital assistant (PDA), and Daisy book player designed for use by individuals who are blind. This unit has a Perkins-style braille keyboard and a 32-cell braille display. It offers 8 gigabytes (GB) of flash memory, Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity, a built-in speaker with stereo earphone jack, a built-in microphone with stereo microphone jack, two USB ports, and an SD slot. The Braille Sense Plus can be used to create, edit, read, and print documents; send and receive e-mail; access the Internet and download files; participate in a live chat; play Daisy-format books; and create and manage an address book and personal schedule. Other features include a calendar, clock, calculator, and online help.     DECtalk Express is a speech synthesizer designed to provide computer speech output for people who are blind or who have low vision. This portable, external synthesizer provides human-like tones and several voice styles. This synthesizer plugs into the serial port of a computer and works in conjunction with screen access software to provide speech output of keyed input and other information displayed on the screen. The Express includes a carrying case, a detachable accessory pouch, headphones, a 9-pin RS 232 connector, and a two-foot long cable. COMPATIBILITY: The unit's serial port enables it to be used with IBM and compatible PCs, laptops and notebooks, palmtops, workstations, and Macintosh computers.     The Juliet Pro 60 is a desktop braille printer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This printer has a 40-character-wide embossing line and 60-characters-per-second speed for double-sided embossing (40-characters per second for single-sided printing). It can use either continuous tractor-feed paper or single sheets, hand-fed one at a time. A variety of different paper sizes and weights can be used. ET Speaks comes up talking automatically on the Juliet Pro 60, echoing commands entered on the keypad and reading all the embosser's status messages out loud. ET Speaks is DoubleTalk-compatible, so it can also read the screen of a computer to which it is attached and play audio files. The user can listen to ET Speaks through speakers or headphones using its external jack. Other standard features include regular and high-resolution Braille graphics, six- or eight-dot Braille, and a choice of Braille sizes, spacing, and layout. Sixteen menus allow the user to customize the embosser just once for each task and call all the settings into action with a few keystrokes.     The Romeo 25 is a braille printer designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision. The Romeo 25 is a rugged basic embosser suitable for student, personal, or home office use. It produces a 40-character line of Library of Congress Braille at 25 characters per second. Standard features on Romeo 25 include Dynamic Braille Scaling and a choice of resolution settings for graphics. Dynamic Braille Scaling allows the user to change Braille sizes, even within a document, from Library of Congress Braille to California sign Braille, Jumbo Braille, standard Braille with increased line spacing, or the smaller Braille often preferred in Japan. With Romeo 25's two graphics modes, it is possible to make Braille graphics at normal resolution for large shapes or at high resolution for finer detail. Sixteen menus allow the user to customize the embosser for any task. Other printing options include 6- or 8-dot Braille, sideways printing, and multiple strikes per character for extra-emphasized dots or to allow for heavier materials. Turning down the impact control makes it possible to print on regular paper. Romeo 25 will print on a variety of paper sizes.     The Romeo Pro 50 is a Braille printer designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. The Romeo Pro 50 looks like the Romeo 25 (see separate entry), but has aditional features and prints twice as fast. The Romeo Pro 50 prints single-sided braille at a rate of 50 characters per second, versus 25 for the Romeo 25. Standard features include ET Speaks, a fast and flexible speech system that comes up automatically and echoes commands as they are entered on the printer's keypad. The unit uses continuous tractor feed paper, and has single sheet tractors that allow the user to hand-feed non-tractor paper one sheet at a time and it can handle paper weights ranging from standard computer paper through heavy index-type card stock. Dynamic Braille Scaling allows the user to change Braille sizes, even within a document, from Library of Congress Braille to California sign Braille, Jumbo Braille, standard Braille with increased line spacing, or the smaller Braille often preferred in Japan. Braille graphics can be printed at normal resolution for large shapes or at high resolution for finer detail. Sixteen menus allow the user to customize the Romeo Pro 50 for six- or eight-dot Braille, sideways printing, or multiple strikes per character.     The Sense View Portable, model P430, also called Portable SenseView, is a portable video magnifier designed for use by individuals with low vision. Images are magnified on a 480 x 272 pixel digital liquid crystal display (LCD) screen. The unit can also take magnified still shots for closer viewing (for example, a shot of a high display rack). The magnification rate can be increased by pushing a digital magnification button. The display has six color modes (full color, black on white, white on black, yellow on black, yellow on blue, and blue on white) and adjustable brightness. Color mode and brightness are controlled with separate buttons. OPTIONS: External camera module (model P430-PECM) for use in handwriting. POWER: Uses internal rechargeable battery. Battery status can be checked by turning on the battery indicator on the LCD screen. DIMENSIONS: LCD screen is 4.3 inches measured diagonally.

  7. TEXTBRIDGE PRO MILLENIUM

    TextBridge Pro Millennium is an optical character recognition (OCR) program designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This OCR program turns scanned documents into Word files with a high degree of accuracy to reduce or eliminate the need for retyping. Files can be edited after scanning. Documents can also be converted automatically into Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) for posting on web sites. This Windows 2000 Certified Program works seamlessly with Microsoft Office 2000 and other Windows applications. The OCR engine can render documents with multiple columns and color photos, and AccuMorph technology improves accuracy on poor quality documents like faxes and photocopies.

  8. TRIPLE TALK PCI

    Triple Talk PCI is an internal hardware speech synthesizer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. Triple Talk PCI makes use of the high speed transfer rates of the PCI bus and the latest in advanced Double-Talk techology to produce a high quality of speech. The Triple-Talk PCI has eight predefined voices, 10 volume levels, 10 different speeds, and 100 unique pitches, and is fully configurable by the user. Parameters such as tone, punctuation filtering, and intonation are also adjustable. The user's ability to take advantage of these options may be limited by certain software packages such as screen access programs. This synthesizer supports screen reader programs such as Window Eyes, JAWS for Windows, Vocal Eyes, and Asap (see separate entries); optical character recognition (OCR) reading machine products such as OpenBook 3.5, Ruby, and Kurzweil; and screen magnification programs such as Zoomtext (see entries). Triple-Talk PCI comes with an external mono speaker for delivering its synthesized speech output. In addition, the external speaker is equipped with a volume knob and a 0.125-inch headphone jack. The unit also comes with an installation disk and a Quick Reference data sheet. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM or compatible micro computers. This speech synthesizer is a USB device that is capable of transferring data at a rate of 12 megabytes per second (Mbps). It executes instructions rapidly to meet the demands of any screen access program. Features include eight predefined voices, ten volume levels, ten different speeds, and 100 unique pitches; the unit is fully configurable to meet individual needs. Parameters such as tone, punctuation filtering, and intonation are also adjustable. These settings may be limited by certain software packages such as screen access programs. The device has an internal 0.5-watt speaker for delivering its synthesized speech output. Volume levels are adjustable via a side mount rotary thumb wheel. A 0.125-inch stereo jack is located on the side of the unit for use with headphones or power speakers. Triple-Talk USB comes with an installation disk with documentation, a USB cable, a standard serial cable, 0.125-inch stereo headphones, and a quick-install reference sheet. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible micro computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: USB or standard RS232 serial port; Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/windows 7 and Linux.
