Picture of SPOK21 Spok21 is a direct selection or combination direct selection and scanning communicator designed for use by individuals with communication or speech disabilities. Intended for use by literate communicators who can utilize the device's phrase memories, this text-to-speech communicator can be accessed using the combination keyboard or scanning as needed. The communicator is available with a choice of the combination keyboard or a direct selection keyboard only. These keyboards are available with QWERTY or ABCDE layouts. Features include multi-line displays, with a forward-facing screen and a user display, natural-sounding speech using the Babel synthesizer, and the ability to toggle between any two on board languages. The unit offers 12 categories, each with six quick phrases, and 39 stored messages for a total of 540 messages. Function keys provide rapid access to phrases. The device has a rugged, contemporary case and a full-size ergonomic keyboard. The large user display shows up to seven lines of text and offers small, medium and large fonts, while the forward-facing display shows two lines of text, enabling listeners to follow conversations. Two integrated speakers provide loud, clear output. The communicator can be connected to a personal computer (PC) using a USB cable to download software releases and upgrades to take advantage of new capabilities as they are released. POWER: Uses rechargeable batteries that are replaceable locally for 7 to 18 hours of communication per charge, depending on use of backlighting. OPTIONS: Membrane keyboard, Cherry notebook keyboard, and infrared unit for environmental control. DIMENSIONS: 10 x 8.7 x 3.4 inches. WEIGHT: 2.9 pounds. COLOR: The face plate is available in red, blue, green, or yellow.
