Test Review: Review of the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory
By Bolton, Brian, PhD; Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, Vol. 47, No. 1, pp. 59-60Publication Date: Fall 2003
Article reviews the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI), which was designed to measure respondents' attitudes toward self in personal, social, family, and academic areas of experience. The test consists of 50 items for children and 25 items for adults. Each item requires a response of “Like Me” or “Unlike Me,” and may be administered to groups or individuals in ten minutes or less. The author finds that the total score of the CSEI is a reasonably reliable and measure of global self esteem, but that the manual is poorly prepared, and does not meet the minimum standards expected for published psychological tests.
