Online Learning Communities: Help is Just a Fingertip Away!

By Zabala, Joy, EdD; Rucker, Chauncy N., PhD; Inclusive and Supportive Education Congress,
Publication Date: August 2005

Paper discusses online learning communities (OCL), which can allow people with different perspectives on technology in special education to come together to share their experiences, knowledge, skills, and ideas. These programs often benefit participants by crossing time and distance to reduce isolation, connect people with diverse sources of information and ideas, and facilitate continuous collaborative learning. The strengths and weaknesses of website-based and e-mail based OCLs are outlined and discussed.
