Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007
By Braille Monitor, Vol. 50, No. 6, pp. 441-445Publication Date: June 2007
Article focuses on accessibility issues for people with visual disabilities surrounding Microsoft Windows Vista, based on evaluations by the International Braille and Technology Center (IBTC) for the Blind. IBTC team members have used the operating system with GW Micro’s Window-Eyes and JAWS beta version 8.0.2107 from Freedom Scientific. The researchers found that the performance of Window-Eyes in Vista is very good. The program’s User Account Control, Secure Desktop, Start Menu, search features, and Windows Sidebar are completely accessible, while navigating between list views is smooth and responsive. JAWS is also compatible with Windows Vista, as a number of standard hotkeys allow for easy navigation. A wide range of helpful hotkey combinations are discussed.
