E-Wheelchair: A Communication System Based on IPv6 and NEMO

By Ernst, Thierry; ICOST 2004, 2nd International Conference on Smart Homes and Health Telematics: Toward a Human-Friendly Assistive Environment, Vol. 14, No. 1, pp. 213-220
Publication Date: 2004

Paper focuses on the E-Wheelchair system architecture, which was designed so that caregivers and researchers can monitor client’s usage of a powered wheelchair via the Internet. The researchers provide a technological discussion of how cutting edge Internet technologies based on IPv6 and network mobility can allow for improved independence of people with disabilities as well as older adults. The prototype E-Wheelchair system is only one example of the potential usages of the proposed system, as this system was under development at the time the article was written. More in-depth analyses of the system were expected at the time the paper was written.
