How to Have "The Look"

By Hollenbeck, Julia; PN: Paraplegia News, Vol. 63, No. 12, pp. 61-63
Publication Date: December 2009

Article discusses attractive, stylish clothing for wheelchair users with hemiplegia. Fully laced shoes are recommended for remedying swelling ankles and feet; stylish varieties mentioned are tennis shoes either in earth-tone colors or with a pattern of brightly colored birds and flowers. Long skirts or slacks for dressing up for dinner are recommended as are straight-line formal dresses. Male wheelchair users donning formal wear are advised to tuck the tails up under the back of the jacket. Special attention should be given to the length of pants and skirts being kept to the top of the shoe. The author advises wheelchair users against wearing shorts, dresses that do not fall mid-calf, and scooped necklines. The article is included in a special section of the issue on clothing for wheelchair users which also features a resource list of adaptive clothing providers.
