Picture of ABILOADER-FX The AbiLoader-FX is a wheelchair loader for car, pickup truck, sport utility vehicle and van designed for use by people with lower extremity or mobility disabilities, spinal cord injury and other who use wheelchairs. It is intended for use with wheelchairs with fixed frames that do not fold. The device is installed in the trunk or rear storage area of a vehicle into which the folded wheelchair will fit. The AbiLoader-FX has a robotic arm with two actuators and a mechanism to grab and hold a wheelchair. There is a third actuator that is installed in the latch of trunk or rear hatch of the vehicle that will open and close that door. The AbiLoader-FO can be installed to deliver the wheelchair to either side of the vehicle. The controls are typically installed at the bottom of the dashboard between the edge of the steering wheel and the driver's side door. When the vehicle reaches a destination, the driver can press a button and the AbiLoader-FO will open the door of the rear cargo area, extend the robot arm out and around to position the wheelchair just behind the desired door (on the passenger or driver side), and release the wheelchair. The user then moves the wheelchair in position for transfer from the vehicle. Once the user has transferred, he or she presses a button to retract the arm and close the cargo area door. When entering the vehicle, the user transfers from the wheelchair to the car and presses the button to have the AbiLoader-FX open the door of the rear cargo area and extend the robot arm out and around to position end of the arm just behind the wheelchair. The user moves the wheelchair so that the loader arm can grab it, then pressed another button so that the AbiLoader-FX grasps the chair and moves it back into the rear storage area, closing the cargo area door when the wheelchair is in place. The loading or unloading procedure takes approximately 30 seconds. POWER: Uses a 12-volt standard vehicle battery or 14-volt connection to alternator when the engine is running. DIMENSIONS: Requires a cargo area measuring at least 71 centimeters high. Other space requirements depend on the size of the wheelchair to be stored. CAPACITY: 32 kilograms. WEIGHT: 48 kilograms.
