Talk Back is a voice output program designed for use by individuals with learning disabilities or low vision. This program can read any electronic text, including web pages and e-mail. The program has been designed to read lists, tabbed lists, tables, and Internet addresses. The user must first highlight the text to be read. The program can ignore html (hypertext markup language) coding when reading web pages or e-mail. Its Talking Typing feature speaks the letters or words as the user types. The program is operated by clicking an on-screen button bar with five buttons just like those on a CD player: Play, Pause, Stop, Program, and Eject. The button bar can be re-positioned anywhere on the screen. The program uses a British English phonetic and context model. It has nine female and nine male voices, based on real people. Each voice can be set for disposition (calm, robotic, excited, bored), volume, speed, and pitch. The program comes with a CD, an on-line manual, and free technical support from the manufacturer. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT4, or XP operating system; P90 MMX; 32 megabytes (MB) random access memory (RAM); 256K L2 cache; SAPI (Speech Application Programming Interface)-compliant 16-bit Sound Blaster compatible sound card.
