--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 11/2009) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Videotape series consists of eight separate one-hour lessons, available either as 4 two-hour tapes or eight one-hour tapes. Designed to instruct the adult previously inexperienced or with limited training in lipreading to view the tape and use the knowledge immediately in everyday life. The words and sentences in each tape are used by the instructor on a one-to-one basis in at least five of the following categories; clothing, food, the home, medical terms, recreation, financial terms, and transportation. Each tape also has a life-like event that people meet in ordinary life. Lessons 1 though 7 use the same methods and presentation for the viewer so that when a person has watched tape one all other tapes will follow same format. Thus viewer can skip between tapes so can concentrate on words and sentences most difficult. Large amount of time is spent in area of both homphonic words (those that appear the same when spoken but have different meanings) and invisible letters (letters that have very little lip movement and some that are produced in the mouth without any lip movement). .

Notes: Author claims the tape series is the first one on speech reading that we know of that has been produced by someone who knows from an actual hearing loss standpoint what works well, and what seems most frustrating.
