--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 8/2003) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Protalk32 For Windows 3.1 is a screen-reading program for individuals who are blind or have low vision. It simultaneously monitors cursor positions, input from the keyboard or a mouse, computing related to the processing of user applications and Microsoft Windows overall supervisory program operations. The software tracks the windows, icons, tools, objects, user text and user data in every application run on Windows. It transparently tranforms the visual display of a computer application into a verbal readout, a tactile presentation via a Braille display, or both. Protalk32 also operates as a training tool, allowing users to practice its command structure without actually executing any commands, and can call up a reference list of all application hot keys from within the program. Protalk32 monitors MS Windows' overall management of computer tasks. A location coordinating tool, the P32 Item Manager, lets users interact with Microsoft Windows' graphical user interfaces. When pictorial representation is used in application programs, it is accompanied by text which P32 can read or display for visually impaired users. P32 can be used with a speech synthesizer, a Braille display, or both. The software operates in both an application mode and a navigation mode. The former is used for text and data input and provides access to all text editing and reading commands. The latter lets the user operate keyboard commands to move a reading cursor around a window without losing place. It also provides access to all foundation and universal text reading commands without disturbing the application. All of the P32 features are automated, including application button training features and features in Database Forms. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Microsoft Windows 3.1 or 95; DOS 5.0 or higher for Windows 3.1 or 3.11; 8 MG RAM Memory; Hard Drive and one 3.5-inch hard drive floppy drive; 4 MG free hard disk space for Windows 95.
