The ACS Trine System is a three-function communication aid, serving as a portable electronic notebook, a communication aid with printed or synthesized voice output, and an alternate input to a general purpose computer. The function can be change with only a single keystroke. The system is based on the Epson HX-20 portable computer, and is equipped with a standard keyboard, an 80-character LCD display, a built-in strip printer, optional speech synthesizer unit, and the Trine Software and documentation developed at the Trace Center. Text can be composed in six "work spaces," each holding up to 55 20-character lines, and retaining their memory when the power is off. Text can be reviewed by viewing it on the display, and can be spoken (optional), printed, or stored on microcassette. Programs for abbreviation expansion (QuicKey) and single-finger operation are provided. ACS's RealVoice is not available for the Trine system. The ACS Trine is $1995 without speech and $2695 with speech. The Trine System's keyboard emulating interface (KEI) complies with the industry standard for KEIs. The Trine System is also available with Morse Code and Light Pointer input options. POWER: Rechargeable batteries. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple II+, Apple IIe, and IBM PC computers.
